Frank Follmer

Lots 136-159

Frank Follmer worked at Walt Disney Studios from the late 1930’s through the early 1940's, on projects such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Pinocchio, and Fantasia. These works of art, which were done early in his career, came from the collection of his daughter. A signed certificate, by Frank Follmer’s Daughter, accompanies each piece of art.

Follmer has an excellent command of the human form in motion. His work illustrates the platonic ideal of masculinity in his choice of both subject matter and its venue. Most of these paintings highlight the male body in its most exalted form. The artistic style is similar to other art done in this time period that would appear in print media like the Saturday Evening Post or Boy’s Life. The colors and rendering are extremely evocative of the era.

Pan Pacific International Exposition

Lots 54-124

The Pan Pacific International Exposition (PPIE), was a World's Fair held in 1915, in San Francisco, California. This fair marked the completion of the Panama Canal, which historically connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The event was held between February 20 to December 4, 1915, attracting millions of visitors worldwide.

After the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, the city wanted to showcase its recovery and resilience as well as celebrate the creation of the Panama Canal. The PPIE celebrated art, architecture, scientific innovations, and the cultures of the other participating countries.

Notable attractions include the Palace of Fine Arts which is still standing to this day, and others such as the Tower of Jewels, the Tower of the Sun, and an amusement park called the Joy Zone.

This collection came from a long term Northern California collector and contractor named Bill Ballas who is well known in the PPIE community.
