These bowls are significant, rare and valuable. They were found in the Mill Valley home of an internationally well known Hotelier named James Nassikas, whose long history in the hospitality industry included stints at the Royal Orleans, and the Mayflower in Washington DC. While in New Orleans he met with and became friends with a Petroleum Industry Heir named William Helis, Jr. These bowls as well as other Chinese Porcelains now up for auction were gifts from Mr. Helis to James Nassikas.
Lot Description: The exterior painted with four five-clawed dragons in iron-red enamel striding through clouds atop a ground of finely incised waves rising from the base, the interior featuring the same motif as a medallion on the interior, all within underglaze blue line borders, the recessed base displaying the mark in underglaze blue in regular script.
Diameter: 5 1/2 inches Condition: Minor wear to the enameling.
